Legal & Notices

The boilerplate, organized for actual reading. This page exists because publishing prep methodology on the public internet has predictable legal and food-safety implications that deserve direct, plain-language acknowledgment.

§ 01

Alcohol

This site publishes recipes, methods, and tools relating to the preparation of alcoholic beverages. Nothing on this site should be construed as encouraging the consumption of alcohol by anyone under the legal drinking age of their jurisdiction. In the United States, that age is 21. In most of Europe, 18. Some jurisdictions are higher. Know your local law.

Alcohol consumption carries health risks, including but not limited to liver disease, dependency, impaired judgment, and acute toxicity at sufficient dose. Consumption of alcohol by pregnant women is contraindicated. Operation of vehicles or machinery while impaired by alcohol is illegal everywhere and unsafe everywhere. The recipes on this site assume a context of moderate, responsible adult consumption.

If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol dependency, resources exist. In the United States, SAMHSA's National Helpline is 1-800-662-4357, free and confidential, 24 hours.

§ 02

Food safety

The bar-prep techniques documented on this site involve handling raw fruit, fresh juice, raw egg whites in some preparations, and food-grade acids. All of these carry standard food-handling risks that any commercial kitchen or bar operator should be familiar with. Reading this site does not substitute for ServSafe certification, your local health department's food handler training, or a working knowledge of HACCP principles.

Specifically:

Operating a bar or commercial food service requires licensing, inspection, and ongoing compliance with state and local health regulations. This site does not substitute for that compliance regime. If you are operating commercially, your local health department is the authority. Read this site as a methodology reference, not as a legal compliance document.

§ 03

Intellectual property

Cocktail recipes themselves are not subject to copyright protection in the United States; the precise wording of a recipe description can be. Where this site presents a recipe or method that originated with a specific named author (Sam Ross's Penicillin and honey-ginger syrup; Nickle Morris's super juice; Don Lee's fat-washing; Jeffrey Morgenthaler's bottling and batching methodology; Dave Arnold's clarification and dilution math; Kevin Kos's super juice formalization), attribution appears in the relevant page.

Where attribution is missing on a specific page, it is an oversight rather than an assertion of originality. Reach out and it will be corrected.

The text, layout, code, and design of this site are © Prepshift, 2026, and are licensed for personal and educational use. Commercial reuse (republishing in a print or digital publication, building a competing tool from the code, white-labeling the site for a third party) requires permission. The calculators on this site are functional tools; the implementations are original work. Reading the source is encouraged; copying it for commercial deployment is not.

§ 04

Affiliate links & advertising

Current status: none. This site contains no affiliate links, no sponsored content, no paid placements, no advertising of any kind, as of the current build. Equipment and brand references appear only where they serve the methodology.

Future status: possibly some, disclosed explicitly. When this site reaches v1.0 and goes to public launch, certain equipment recommendations may carry affiliate links to Amazon, Webstaurant, or category-specific suppliers, where the inclusion makes practical sense for readers. Any such links will be marked at the link level (an [aff] tag) and at the page level (a banner notice). Sponsored content, paid reviews, and brand-driven placements will not appear on this site under any circumstance. If a piece of equipment is bad, this site will say so; if a brand is good, this site will say so without being paid.

§ 05

Data & privacy

This site does not collect personal data. There are no analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, no third-party cookies, no fingerprinting beyond what your browser does by default when fetching any web page. Server logs (HTTP requests, IP addresses, user agents) are kept for 7 days and used only for diagnosing site issues; they are not analyzed for marketing purposes and are not shared with third parties.

When and if an email subscription option is added to this site, it will be opt-in only, will store only your email address and subscription date, and will be used only for the explicit purpose subscribed to. No subscriber list will be sold or shared.

§ 06

The status of the data

Repeated for emphasis

Every cost figure, yield percentage, shelf-life duration, and dilution constant on this site is currently a placeholder. Numbers are calibrated to industry rules of thumb and validated against published sources, but they are not audited production data from the operating Prepshift business. They are useful for structure and method; trust them when the masthead says v1.0 · Verified.

Do not make material business decisions — pricing changes, equipment purchases, vendor contracts — based solely on the numbers on this site in its current state. Use them as a starting point for your own due diligence.
